Research Assistant , Drexel University Juvenile Justice Research Lab

Grant Recipient: Shelby Arnold, Class of 2012

Major: Psychology
Organization: Drexel University Juvenile Justice Research Lab
Location: Philadelphia, PA

My summer internship is working as a research assistant in Drexel's Juvenile Justice Research Lab under a Wesleyan Alumni who is now a professor at Drexel. The research focuses on anger management in female juvenile offenders. The lab has been working for years to create an effective treatment for the unique population of teenage girls in residential detention facilities, a population that was not specifically addressed before this study. This summer I have gone to the facilities to conduct interviews and IQ/personality assessments on the girls, as well as learned the behind the scenes processes of a research study. I am also working on a few side projects for the grad students in the lab, and writing a proposal to present at the International American Psychology-Law Conference in March. Aside from work, living in Philadelphia has been a blast, and though my summer experience is coming to an end soon, I have absolutely loved the research and am thankful for the grant!
